Bogotá Squares Tour

Description

Our journey begins in the bustling Paloquemao Market Square, the epicenter of Bogotá's food supply and a true mosaic of life. As you step foot here, you'll be greeted by an explosion of colors, sounds, and smells that will completely envelop you.

  • A Rainbow of Exotic Fruits: We'll delve into the fruit section, a paradise for lovers of the new and the unknown. Your expert guide will introduce you to a dazzling array of tropical fruits you've probably never seen before. Imagine tasting the tropical sweetness of the mango, the refreshing acidity of the gulupa, the unique creaminess of the chontaduro, or the vibrant pulp of the granadilla and lulo. (seasonal). We'll cut, smell, and taste several of these gems, learning about their properties, their stories, and how they're used in Colombian cuisine. Prepare for a symphony of flavors and textures, from sweet and juicy to tart and surprising.
  • The Garden of a Thousand Flowers: As we walk through, the air will change, filled with the sweet fragrance of thousands of fresh flowers. The Paloquemao flower section is a visual spectacle: mountains of roses, carnations, orchids, and countless other Colombian varieties, ready to be admired and exported all over the world. Here, you'll understand why Colombia is famous for its floriculture and marvel at the skill and artistry of flower arrangements.
  • Flavors and Sounds of the Market: Beyond the fruits and flowers, we'll explore the other sections of the market. We'll see mountains of fresh vegetables, artisanal cheese stands with their intense aromas, aromatic herbs that are the basis of the local cuisine, and the hustle and bustle of the butchers. You'll have the opportunity to try a freshly made fruit juice at one of the stands or enjoy an authentic "tinto" (black coffee) while observing the daily life of Bogotá's residents. It's a total immersion in the local culture.

After absorbing the energy of Paloquemao, we'll head to La Perseverancia, a traditional neighborhood full of charm, history, and, most importantly, delicious flavors!

  • Tastings with a Taste of Home: La Perseverancia is famous for its local restaurants, which serve authentic Colombian home-style food. We'll sit down in one of these cozy establishments, chosen for their quality and genuine atmosphere. Here, the choice will be difficult, but delicious. You can SEE a comforting Ajiaco Santafereño, Bogotá's signature soup, full of potatoes, chicken, and herbs. Or maybe you prefer the explosion of flavors of a Bandeja Paisa, a hearty dish with meat, egg, beans, and avocado. You could also check out a juicy Lechona (stuffed roast pork) or some tasty Tamales. The goal is for you to experience true neighborhood cuisine, where every bite tells a story of tradition and flavor.
  • History and Street Art Walk: With a full stomach and a renewed spirit, we'll take a leisurely stroll through the streets of La Macarena. We'll admire its traditional architecture, with colorful houses that evoke times gone by. The neighborhood is also a canvas for street art and murals that tell the story of its inhabitants and their struggles. Your guide will share anecdotes and details about the rich history of this area, which has been a pillar in the social and cultural development of Bogotá.
  • Sweet Temptations and Farewell: Before finishing, if time permits and cravings strike, we can stop at one of the small neighborhood shops to try a traditional Colombian dessert, such as a wafer filled with arequipe, some cocadas made with panela, or some other typical sweet to sweeten the end of our tour of the International Center.
